On February 14, 2011, Susan M. Cange, Deputy Assistant Manager for Nuclear Fuel Supply, US DOE. gave a presentation entitled “Reindustrialization of the Oak Ridge Reservation”
The Heritage Center Industrial Park is a large industrial complex spawned from the Manhattan Project. In 1996, a Reindustrialization program was launched by the Department of Energy and the Oak Ridge community that focused on the reuse of the Department of Energy‘s former research and development facilities while the Department of Energy continued its D&D (demolition program. Established in 1995, CROET and its subsidiaries own, develop and manage over 300 acres of former Department of Energy property at the East Tennessee Technology Park (ETTP) and the Oak Ridge Science & Technology Park. A number of sites have been cleaned and leased or sold to private companies. The work to remove outdated structures and clean up the sites is continuing.
On February 28, 2011 David Dinse, P.E.,Technology Innovations, TVA spoke about the “Campbell Creek Solar Energy Demonstration Project”. David Dinse has been employed at the Tennessee Valley Authority since 1981 as an R&D project manager and project engineer. He is the Tennessee Valley Authority’s leading technical authority on geothermal heat pump technology. He has directed TVA’s research on geothermal HP performance in commercial buildings for over 12 years. The project includes three new houses which are occupied by robots. One house is typical of the neighborhood. One house is like the neighborhood houses with a retrofit for energy efficiency. The third house is a near zero energy house which uses about a third of the energy used by the typical house.
A committee- headed by Tim Moran -is planning the 90 year anniversary celebration. The committee has met and tentatively set the date of May 12, 2011 and the place to be the Crowne Plaza.
