Patrice Cole will be our speaker for May 6th. Her presentation will be on Low Impact Design for Stormwater.(PDH)
She has a Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from The University of Tennessee. She has conducted wetland delineations and jurisdictional determination requests. She has repaired Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) for residential,

commercial, and industrial development and construction. She has coordinated and overseen SWPPP implementation, including installation of erosion and sedimentation controls during construction as well as permanent post-construction stormwater management systems. She designs and installs Low Impact Development practices for stormwater management, including rain gardens, bioswales, and bio-retention cells.
Stormwater is being recognized as a major contributor in pollution of streams and there is a lot of regulatory activity related to stormwater management. Also, stormwater may be an asset for some businesses.

of the UT Forest Resources Research and Education Center, will speak about the UT proposed natural gas and oil development research project (fracking).(PDH)
The University of Tennessee wants to allow hydraulic fracturing to extract natural gas on a state-owned tract of rolling woodland and use the revenue to fund research into the environmental impact of such drilling — a proposal
that environmentalists condemn as a conflict of interest.
The speaker on May 20, 2013 will be Chad Duty, Group Leader, Oak Ridge National Laboratory
He will speak about ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration
Facility (MDF)
The Dept. of Energy’s first Manufacturing Demonstration Facility, established at ORNL, helps industry adopt new manufacturing technologies to reduce life-cycle energy and greenhouse gas emissions, lower production cost, and create new products and opportunities for high-paying jobs.
Dr. Duty is a Senior Research Scientist and the Group Leader for the Deposition Science & Technology Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Dr. Duty’s research has focused on the use of high intensity plasma arc lamps for the Pulse Thermal Processing (PTP) of various thin films, semiconductors, and photovoltaic materials. Within the MDF, he is currently working on the development of flexible printed electronics as well as improving the mechanical performance of polymer-based additive manufacturing components. He is also leading an initiative on the bacterial-production of complex nanoparticles, called NanoFermentation.
May 27 Memorial Day- the Technical Society will not meet .
