The December 7, 2015 Technical Society of Knoxville will have Jeff Munsey, a geophysicist with the TVA Dam Safety Engineering Services Group as speaker. The title of his presentation will be “TVA dams on karstic foundations” (PDH).
Jeffrey W Munsey is a seismologist at the Tennessee Valley Authority. Seismologists study the genesis and the propagation of seismic waves in geological materials. In the case of earthquakes, seismologists evaluate the potential dangers and seek to minimize their impact through the improvement of construction standards. The bedrock in parts of Tennessee is limestone with caves. Since a dam failure can be a catastrophic event and earthquakes are common in East Tennessee the safety of TVA dams is an important topic.
On December 14, 2015 Harvey Abouelata, President of ARiES Energy, will speak about Solar and biofuel energy projects in the Knoxville area. At ARiES, he oversees business operations and management, marketing strategy, and overall customer satisfaction.
