February 2016 Technical Society meeting

02 Feb

The February 8, 2016 meeting of the Technical Society of Knoxville will feature KUB and our water. TSK will meet at the Crown Plaza at 11:30 am for lunch and a brief overview of the presentation and will then travel to the KUB Water Quality and Regulatory Compliance Department at 835 E. Jackson Ave for a tour. Meeting and tour will be complete by 1:30 pm.

The Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) owns and operates four wastewater treatment plants and a water treatment plant that provides drinking water to over 200,000 people in the City of Knoxville and surrounding area. All of these facilities are regulated by both the federal and state government, and there are strict rules and regulations associated with the water that is produced from these plants. KUB also owns and maintains a very large distribution system for drinking water and a collection system for wastewater that must also be operated in compliance with regulatory requirements.

The oversight of the compliance with these system regulations and reporting is the responsibility of the Regulatory Compliance Department of KUB. The manager is Debbie Ailey and she will discuss this important work of maintaining water quality in our drinking water and area waterways. She will take attendees on a tour of the laboratory that does the testing to support these operations and demonstrate compliance with water quality standards and requirements. Ms. Ailey will also share insight on KUB programs and operations in place to be sure KUB protects the health and safety of our community and our water resources.
