The formal meeting begins at 11:50 a.m.

This presentation explores the fascinating science and technology behind Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), from its historical development to the fundamental principles that make image formation possible. Topics include nuclear magnetic resonance, hydrogen proton behavior, magnetic fields, radiofrequency excitation, signal generation and spatial encoding. Advanced imaging applications, including diffusion imaging, MR angiography and gadolinium-based contrast enhancement, are also discussed. The presentation concludes with an examination of MRI system technology, superconductivity, liquid helium and critical MR safety considerations — emphasizing the importance of maintaining a strong culture of safety in the MRI environment.
